Getting started
Signing in, and who sees what
The two doors into Ashee SMS, the school roles behind them, and what each role can reach.
Ashee SMS has two front doors, and they are separate on purpose: a school's own application, and the platform console that operates the service. Neither door opens the other.
The school's application
A school's staff sign in at the school's own address. The application serves that school and no other: its year, its people, its marks. A membership is a fact about one school, so there is no screen here that lists a second school and nothing to switch between.
The two school roles
| Role | What it is for | What it reaches |
|---|---|---|
| Administrator | Running the year: setup, classes, subjects, people, grading, publication | Everything in that school |
| Teacher | Teaching: marks and corrections for the classes they hold | Only the class and subject pairs assigned to them |
A teacher's view is scoped by assignment rather than by a preference they set. If a teacher is assigned to JSS 2A Mathematics, that pair is what they see; a class they do not hold is not hidden by a filter but absent from the request.
The platform console
The people who operate the service sign in somewhere else, at the console's own address, with platform credentials. That console holds the platform's records: which schools exist, their state, and their subscription. It is not a way into a school's year, and a platform actor never holds a school membership.
